Placer County – A temporary traffic shift for a two-lane stretch of Highway 65 north of Sheridan is scheduled to take effect Tuesday, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has announced.

Located between the towns of Wheatland and Sheridan, the new alignment will follow a route between the existing highway and Union Pacific railroad tracks. Motorists will be advised to reduce their speed to 45 mph as they approach the roadway curves. The detour is necessary to make way for construction of the north end connection between the existing highway and the new Highway 65 Lincoln Bypass.

Caltrans, the City of Lincoln and the Placer County Transportation Planning Agency are partners in the $292 million Lincoln Bypass project, which calls for constructing 11.7 miles of new highway around Lincoln and Sheridan. The bypass is expected to open in early fall.

Roadside message boards will be used to post the latest information. Unexpected weather or events may prolong or cause the work to be rescheduled. Caltrans urge motorists to use caution when driving in the area and to “Slow for the Cone Zone”.

Concrete barrier installation planned north of Sheridan

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is alerting the public of planned lane closures on State Route 65 (SR-65) between the towns of Sheridan and Wheatland.

The overnight lane closures will be in effect tonight from 7:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. Caltrans will implement one way traffic control in the affected area with signs, flaggers and a pilot vehicle to manage traffic through the construction zone.

Crews will be installing concrete barrier along the northbound shoulder in preparation for constructing a detour that will allow crews to construct the north-end Lincoln Bypass connection to the current SR-65 roadway. The detour will take approximately three weeks to construct and will remain in place until the opening of the Lincoln Bypass later this year.

The work being done is part of a $325 million project to create an 11.7-mile highway bypass around the City of Lincoln. The bypass will open to the public on schedule in 2012.

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is alerting the public of planned lane closures on Ferrari Ranch Road. At all times, one lane will be open in each direction between Joiner Parkway and Sorrento Parkway.

Crews will remove portions of the center median along Ferrari Ranch Road between Groveland Lane and Caledon Circle to widen the road and allow traffic to move through signalized intersections at the on and off ramps for the Lincoln Bypass. The new median will provide permanent separation between east and westbound traffic on Ferrari Ranch Road and also allow turning movements for traffic exiting the Lincoln Bypass.

Lane closures will remain in effect throughout this phase of construction, with an estimated completion timeline of three months.

The work being done is part of a $325 million project to create an 11.7-mile highway bypass around the City of Lincoln. The bypass will open to the public on schedule in 2012.
